Subject: Battle Ribons for 100 year Anniversary .

To all Squadrons in District 8:

At the USPS 2013 Governing Board at Jacksonville last week each District was 
given an Ensign with the new 100 year logo on it to be taken back to the 
home District.  During the year each Squadron is to purchase a "Battle 
Ribbon" to be attached to this new District Flag and then the District Flags 
are to be returned to same meeting next year.

The Battle Ribbons are to be about 2 ft in length, and about 3 inches in 
width, with the District number at the top, Squadron Name in the middle 
(with out the words Sail or Power) and the year of founding at the bottom. 
These ribbons have the flowing options:
Color of Ribbon: Red, White, Blue and Gold.  These colors are the ones 
presently in the National Ensign with the 100 year logo.
Color of Type Face: same as above Red, White, Blue and Gold.
If the Squadron is over 50 years old a gold stripe is available like the 
ones on our Burgees.

I was trying to  put together a wish list for your Squadron and place one 
order with Seaborne Canvas.  This would save you time and some shipping 
cost, which would be shared  by all the  Squadrons.

I understand that Coral Ridge, Hollywood and Palm Beach Squadrons have 
already ordered their Battle Ribbons.

If you want me to place your order, I will call your Commander and get all 
the necessary information for your Ribbon.  If you do not want me to
do this for you please let me know.

The cost of the Battle Ribbon is $20.00 + shipping.

I am sending this email to insure that all Squadrons have their Battle 
Ribbons ready for our April District Conference.     The Conference will 
have a  ceremony focused on the Ribbons.

100 Year input from District 8

Member are encouraged to provide input relative to the 100 Celebration and the goings on inside District 8 at this location.

Hope to see you on the cruise aboard Nieuw Amsterdam in February 2014. My wife Barbara and I will be aboard and look forward to visiting with many of you during the 7 days on the water.

Centennial Voyage of the Ensigns

2013 marks United States Power Squadrons’ 100^th year of civic service, education, and fellowship.  To celebrate 100 years of USPS, a 12-by-18 commemorative 100^th anniversary ensign was designed and is available from the Ship’s Store at www.shopusps.org or by calling 888-367-8777 x 0. Members are encouraged to fly their commemorative ensigns proudly and then retire them to a place of honor in remembrance of our 100^th anniversary.

To recognize our 100 years of service, a special 100^th anniversary ensign will be presented to each district at the 2013 USPS Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, 17-20 Jan. The district commanders will proceed from the Annual Meeting with their district’s ensign.

Squadrons are asked to design streamers to attach to these special ensigns.  Ordering information is available on the 100^th anniversary website: www.usps.org/100 under downloads.  Districts are encouraged to hold ceremonies throughout their area at which squadrons will attach their streamers to the district ensign.

Then, to open the 2014 Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, 30 Jan. –2 Feb., each district commander will return his or her district’s ensign displaying the streamers of all the squadrons in the district.  After the meeting, the ensigns will return to the districts for display and in remembrance of our first 100 years.

The special ensigns will be shipped to Jacksonville in individual boxes and will include a stand, a pole, finial, and attachment ring for the streamers.

Districts are responsible for taking the ensigns home following the 2013 Annual Meeting.

Districts are responsible for returning their decorated ensigns to the 2014 Annual Meeting. At the close of the meeting, districts are again responsible for taking their ensigns home.

Special shipping arrangements will be available at the hotel.
