Safe Boating Week - Heard on the water
District 8 is getting charged up about the Safe Boating Week
coming up in May. What’s a safe boating week? It is nationally
recognized as the week to promote safer boating. This year it falls on May 18 - May 24, 2013.
What’s a District 8? There are 15
boating squadrons (United States Power Squadrons) in district 8 from Sebastian
to Key West, Florida. Information about this district can be found at http://www.uspsd8.org/. All of the groups
within the district will be putting on special events to help promote this
week. If you would like to share in these events contact the squadron of your
choice.
The Vero Beach Power Squadron (VBPS)
plans to hold boating classes and seminars at the VBPS facility, which is next
to the Barber Bridge (301 Acacia Road). According to a reliable source VBPS
will be in the” Wear It” campaign (http://www.safeboatingcampaign.com/)
as well.
An unverified rumor suggests that some
of the 392 members of the squadron may walk the Barber Bridge wearing/holding
PFDs sometime during the cooler part of the day. Check out the VBPS new website
www.verobeachpowersquadron.com
or stop in on any Friday night during the social hour (5:30-7:30).
